For Our Community

We believe true success is not only when your work and business get better, but when the world around you gets better as well. Check out some of the community and civic support we’ve provided!

What does a group of pet-loving, rescue and shelter supporters do to make Take Your Dog to Work Day even more special? We ran an internal donation drive to collect items most needed by area shelters and rescues. It’s heartwarming to see people come together to help animals in need. Our staff collected over 280 items during SPI’s Virginia Beach SPCA donation drive. Yes, that’s 280 items to help dogs, cats and other small animals in need of FURever homes! We have continued to collect items now on a regular basis. Visit our lunchroom and you’ll find a box filled with goodies for our furry friends.

SPI stepped up to support the United Way Day of Caring! We donated time, supplied muscle and created a series of silly TV commercials promoting the idea that good things happen when you give. SPI also produced promotional materials for the annual United Way Campaign.

We’re dedicated to LEAD—the region’s oldest and largest leadership network—and their mission of supporting great leaders throughout Hampton Roads. Angela Blackwell Carter, Executive Director of LEAD, is a dear friend of SPI and a brilliant leader herself. SPI has worked with LEAD to produce promotional materials, videos and provide other support over many years.

Nearly 4 million veterans fought in World War II, and we are losing approximately 2000 of these heroes every single day. Honor Flight has a mission to get as many of these “greatest generation” veterans as possible to the Washington DC monument built in their honor. Our local chapter conducts two trips per year—totally free to the veterans. It’s a day of gratitude and showing appreciation for the sacrifices these men and women made. In addition to creating fundraising materials for Honor Flight, it was particularly gratifying for many of us to serve as guardians (travel assistants) on some trips.

“I have been in this world for over 87 years, had the opportunity to visit many countries, and had many highlights; but the Honor Flight will be the most memorable.”

The Life Enrichment Center (LEC) provides literacy tutoring and other learning programs for elementary schools across Hampton Roads. For several years, SPI Collective assisted LEC with marketing, fundraising and community engagement efforts by providing promotional materials, presentations and event support.

SPI Collective strongly supports Samaritan House and their mission to put an end to sexual and domestic violence, human trafficking and homelessness. Most people in Hampton Roads don’t understand the great need in our area or understand how much Samaritan House truly does for our community, on an ongoing basis, by providing a wide range of services to help those impacted by all types of violence. SPI’s CEO, Chris Calcagno, is a past chairman of 100 Men, one of Samaritan House’s fundraising and awareness initiatives.

SPI President, Chris Calcagno, a graduate of CIVIC Leadership Class of 2015, is a big believer and supporter of the organization. Every year, CIVIC selects one of our community’s most philanthropic leaders for the prestigious Darden Award—named for CIVIC’s founder Josh Darden. For a number of years, we produced the presentation video, including a video tribute to Josh Darden.

For ten years SPI our company hosted Santa Night for our employees, clients and associates, complete with a very realistic Santa who had ten grandkids of his own, making him very comfortable with little ones. The idea was to save our friends and family moms and dads the hassle of waiting in line at the mall for hours just to get one expensive photo. The company even hired a professional photographer to shoot a full round of photos for each child and family and provided them, free of charge, as a holiday gift.
For five years, it was our pleasure to create and supply promotional materials for Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and their CHKD 5K RunWalk for Kids, to raise money for life-saving research and medical treatment, including mental health services, for the children in their care.
